HI
I am guessing that it is aldactone/spiro that you have read about
concerning birth defects. If you are trying to conceive right now, you
cant not take spiro. If you are planning for a child in the future it
isnt a problem. the reason that aldactone causes the birth defects is
that while lowering your testosterone it also lowers the baby's at a
critical time when sexual organs are developing. In males it cause
obsure reproductive organs. In females suprisingly it can cause even
worse side effects such as polycystic kidneys as well as also deforming
genitalia. The developement of sexual organs starts very early in
pregnancy and by the time a woman discovers she it pregnant, if she is
on aldactone, the damage is already done. This is why doctors do not rx
this drug with out requiring the patient to be either on bcps, or like
me had a tubal ligation, hysterectomy or some other permanent ceasation
of reproduction. Fortunately, once you go off spiro, it no longer a
problem if you should became pregnant.

PS: just wanted to say that I have been on rogaine for 15 tears and
spiro for about 8 months now and ever time I look in the mirror I cant
get over the improvement.
