I believe that I have PCOS and have made a drs appt for tomorrow.....From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Aug 2003 20:12:20 -0500 (CDT)
I believe that I have PCOS and I have been to my gyno several times since November but she will not diagnose with me anything other than depression. I began having the symptons long ago and the first was skipping periods...now I have no period. I have developed several cysts since November 2002.I have anywhere from 5 to 7 follicles at one time. I have gained 37 ppounds since January 2003. I have low blood sugar, low thyroid level (still in the normal range but on the low side), my weight gain is in my mid-drif. I have developed hypertension to the point that the side of my face hurts and my arms tingle. I have poor mental concentration, lack of attention, and I am tired all the time. My sex drive is low and I have thinning of my hair on the top of my head. I began to have acne to the point that I had to take antibiotics and use Retin-A. I have had one period in 9 months. For some strange reason my gyno thinks I am just depressed, not excercising enough, and I should not mind not having a period. Well, I work two jobs five days a week, I walk almost 8 hours straight a night at work (I am a law enforcement agent)I also work a very active second job. I hardly eat and I am not loosing weight.....but I am depressed???? The Family Nurese Practicioner thinks that I have Insulin Resisitent Diabeties and referred me to a endocrinologist...who said that I have to see a family dr first for a referral....what is with drs now a days. I am only 30 years old and have no children...no one seems to care or listen to the signs and symptoms I am displaying. I spoke with a nail client of mine and she told me about this disorder. I have a dr's appt tomorrow and I need to know if I should show the Dr the literature I have found on PCOS. I don't want him to think that I am a hypcondriac. Please give me some advice.
-- Thanks Amy
