Re: PCOS, epilepsy, and depakoteFrom: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 4 Aug 2003 20:47:08 -0500 (CDT)
I have also read of a depakote/PCOS link... I took depakote for a short time around age 18 for suspected bipolar disorder, and it made my hair fall out in massive amounts. This is a possible side effect of the dep and DEFINIATELY a PCOS symptom... When I quit taking the depakote, the hair loss stopped. I had PCOS symptoms before the dep - irregular periods, excess hair - and I really can't say if taking the dep made me any worse. I wasn't on it for long, maybe a month, tops. I haven't really found anything proving the dep worsens or causes PCOS... but I definately think that those of us who are prone to PCOS are also prone to the conditions depakote is used for - migraines, bipolar depression, and who knows, maybe even epilepsy?
