Re: formed overeater...frustrated with doctors and pcosFrom: Anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jul 2003 18:32:54 -0500 (CDT)
I just want to say....awwwwwww....and congrats on at least making the progress that you have so far. I know losing weight and getting control is hard. I used to overeat, and sometimes I still will eat too many sweets if I am feeling depressed/stressed as I am lately (dealing with MCAT, family, and pelvic pain...grrr). Don't give up, but losing weight makes life a lot better - i.e. people treat you very differently - and much healthier - lower risk of heart diseases, plus your body regulates things much better, not to say that weight will make everything better, because it won't. Anyway, I cut out a lot of sweets from diet and had better company that made me happier and lost about 40lbs. I'm still trying to lose 20-25lbs, but I know I won't be able to until I can exercise again - can't b/c of pelvic pain. About the diet, I would like to say, in my opinion, the best way to tackle this would be to decrease amount of sugar intake and saturated fat. Use oil instead of butter, things like that. My professor avoids anything that contains hydrogenated fats b/c what they do is take unsaturated fat (good) and make it saturated (bad). Also, if you plan on eliminating carbs, get rid of low-nutrition carb, such as white rice, white bread, pasta, and alcohol; and keep the fiber-filled ones like whole grain breads and cereals, and high-fiber fruits and veggies. Make little adjustments at a time so you get used to it. And it is OK if you don't perfectly follow your new routine, as long as you do mostly. Lastly....regarding your doctors, I don't know what to say, because the first time around, I found a doctor who listened to me, gave me respect, addressed any questions/concerns I had, corrected any wrong info I may have obtained, gave explanations and justifications for his reasoning, and knew I am serious and want to figure out what is wrong with me. I'm glad you found a doctor who prescribed what you wanted. I also hope that you have chosen a doctor who will respect you and is willing to listen to you and answer any question/concerns you may have. Good luck with everything.
