Re: Does anyone have PCOS without Insulin Resistance? From: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Jul 2003 13:54:22 -0500 (CDT)
My glucose test also came back normal (as well as most of the other blood tests). The one thing that came back abnormal was that I had elevated testosterone. The Dr. told me that for a time your body can keep overcompensating to make it look as if you are not insulin resistant when you really are. She said the elevated testosterone was a sign of that. I've been on 1000mg Glucophage, 300mg Wellbutrin and Lo/Ovrum birth control for about 3 1/2 months now. I'm not trying to get pregnant obviously, but overall the depression has gotten somewhat better, my periods are more regular (although additional cramping), and I've lost about 16 lbs without really trying. That is a miracle since I've been on diets my entire life and have only managed to lose that amount once; it was pure torture and didn't continue. I've read on other sites that Glucophage seems to be a miracle drug for some women with PCOS. I've seen some who mentioned the miracle weight loss and others who said they got pregnant quickly. Have you tried that? Hope this helps....keep your chin up.
