Hi I gotta ask: Are you seeing an endocrinologist, family doctor or OBGYN??? Sonnet is right on the money about about glucophase and Birth control pills. Birth control pills do nothing to treat PCOS and mearly mask the symptoms. I had my tubes tied after my son was born, but from what I understand many women take both with out any problems. I would think that a doctor handing out these drugs would understand that, but from reading so many posts here, that isnt always the case. If you are not seeing an edocrinologist, I highly recommend it. They specialize in treating hormonal disorders, which is what PCOS is. OBGYNs specialize in reproductive issues and although reproductive issues such as infertility and irregular menstral cycles are often symptoms of the syndrome, they are not the cause of it.

As for the low carbing, its tough no two ways about it. SOme of us really low carb while I myself do not restrict as much as other do. I do eat less carbs than before though, but just as importantly is that I try to make good choices in the carbs that I do eat. WHite bread is "verbotten" in our house. So is white rice and white pasta. In their place is whole grain flour that's in the bread and pasta we do eat and brown rice. I no longer drink a glass of OJ(loaded with carbs and no fiber to help break it down), I have a half a orange. Removing the processed carbs as much as I can has made a big difference in how I look and feel. My husband who I am convinced is undiagnosed insulin resistant has also benefited from the change in our families diet. You might have to experiment with how many carbs you can do with or without. Like everything else in this syndrome, everybody is different.
