Re: getting tubes tied or lack theof because of PCOSFrom: Wanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 11 Jul 2003 15:23:31 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I was just diagnosed today with PCOS, have been having the symptoms for about 3 years.... ever since I had my tubes tied three years ago. I don't know if there is any relationship or not, just that my symptoms didn't show up, except for a hair or two on my chin and a tendancy to be about 10-15 pounds overweight until about a year after I had my tubes tied. I heard a nurse for an OBGYN comment the other day that a lot of women become irregular once their tubes are tied. She didn't know why, didn't elaborate. Perhaps that is where the connection is coming from. I had trouble with BCP for years, they gave me migraines and I begged doc's to tie my tubes. I couldn't get it done until I was about 35 and then I got my share of funny looks. Sad thing is, if the doctor had sterilized me when I was in my early 20's, as I had asked, it would have saved me the misery of getting an abortion in my late 20's (when I was taking a 'migraine' break from the pills)when I got mixed up with the wrong guy. I can't understand why women are expected to want children. Not all of us are natured for it. Some of us prefer to nurture by teaching other people's children, or by taking care of unwanted pets the world throws out. For me, I have always been too poor, too set in my ways, too stubborn, and too busy doing my own thing to raise a child properly. And, if I couldn't do it right, I didn't see any use in doing it at all. Good Luck! Wanda (If anyone wants to read my long, dull history, check out the archives for May, 15, 2002.)
