Please help! PCOS with the 'C'?!?!From: angelina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 5 Jul 2003 14:19:30 -0500 (CDT)
Hi all, I am new here and this might be kind of lengthy, but please bear with me! I am in serious need of advice. I am 24 years old. I have many of the symptoms of pcos- excessive hair growth (*really* excessive!), weight gain (from 5'3" 130 to 5'3" 185 without a change in diet), irregular period, acne, mood swings, and tests that prove my body produces too much androgens. I had an ultrasound which showed that I have a single small ovarian cyst, and my ovaries are enlarged. I also was tested and have no glandular problems, tumors, etc. To me, all signs point to PCOS. Now here's my problem... I was told by both the reproductive endocrinologist AND my regular doc that the results of my ultrasound are "normal variations" for some women, and that I have "a hormone imbalance for unknown reasons"- all because I have only one cyst. I was also told that I should have no trouble conceiving children, which has proven to be very, very untrue for me & my husband. Has anyone else out there run into a problem like this? Seeming to have PCOS, but without the cysts?! Thanks to anyone who can help! I am both upset and frustrated, and very disappointed in my doctors.
