Re: PCOS EXPERT NEEDED

My gynecologist is the one that prescribes my glucophage/metformin to me. She also does my blood work, checking my cholesterol and insulin and glucose levels on occasion. I have tried to find an endocrinologist myself, and my gyn has also suggested I find one, but after trying 4 of them, I have not been able to find one that I am happy with, nor do they understand pcos the way I expect them to. They have all actually had the same opinion that your endo has, and that opiniion is incorrect. Glucophage/Met is not just for diabetes, but also for insulin resistance which is a pre-diabetic condition. And insulin resistance, if not treated, and if allowed to go on and on, can be very damaging to the body causing all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms.

So I told my gyn the last time I saw her that she's "it" and she has taken over with the treatment I need. And thank goodness as I feel so much better today.

Bottom line, the doctor that treats your daughters should be a doctor who understands pcos and what meds are needed, whether it's a gyn or an endo. If you can't find an endo that truly understands pcos, ask the gyn to at least get the girls started on what they need until you do find one. One other tip...you may want to look into finding a "REPRODUCTIVE endocrinologist".
