Depends on what this doctor is doing to treat your PCOS. If they're
actually being proactive about your treatment and helping you find
answers, you've found a good one - stick with them!! If they're telling
you to diet, doing nothing, or just offering you the pill to normalize
your periods, change and don't look back.
Women with PCOS often DO have multiple cysts on their ovaries, but not
always. Many women who do NOT have PCOS also have cysts. The cysts
that are not related to PCOS sometimes come and go as hormone changes in
the menstrual cycle come and go. So your doctor is probably checking to
see, as you say, if your cysts go away - which would mean, if they did,
that they are probably one PCOS symptom you don't have to worry too much
about.
Has this doctor done bloodwork? Especially insulin levels? Have they
kept you on the Glucophage and tried different doses or other insulin
medications? Has (s)he suggested a low carb diet to you? All these
things can actually help with PCOS.
Hang in there. I was 370lbs just about 2 years ago. A new endo raised
my gluc. dose and even without really low carbing, I lost 70lbs and
found myself pregnant, not to mention having all kinds of energy,
feeling good, sleeping at night, and so on. Finding the right treatment
is key, but you're not doomed by any means!
