Re: Glucophage & side effectsFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Jun 2003 13:18:56 -0700 (PDT)
Becky, Glucophage (brand name) metformin (generic) does not work for everyone so you can't tell her that it will for sure work for her. Only she's going to know if it's going to work for her. Also, the upset stomach is not worth it to someone on the medicine and can't handle it regardless of how long they have been on it. Not everyone can handle living with the upset stomach and diarrhea. I know of some people that have had to change meds completely b/c they couldn't handle the side effects Glucophage causes. I'm glad that you have done well on it, and I'm glad for others that have done well like you but that is not the case for everyone. Lisa, taking the medicine with meals should hopefully minimize the side effects if you do get any. My mom was put on Glucophage XR just recently (again) but at 500 mg since she can't go to 1000 mg b/c of what it does to her. And so far since she's been taking it she has had no side effects whatsoever and that is probably b/c of having to take it with meals. ===== Kristy :) http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html For women who are interested in additional support http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Endo_Vulvodynia_PCOS/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Zoladexforendometriosis/ I am a Medical Secretary who does a lot of learning from reading on the Net, books, my dr(s), as well as sharing my own personal experiences.
