When should I go off Birth Control?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 23 Jun 2003 17:43:41 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago. I have been taking Yasmin and it is supposed to help prevent more cysts (PCOS). I know that after I quit taking the BC, it will take a few months for my periods to regulate (and maybe they won't regulate at all if I have PCOS for sure). I want to start to try and get pregnant in about 4 months. It will be my first baby. So, since I would like to try and get pregnant, could I just use alternative methods of birth control while I wait for my cycle to regulate for a few months? Or do I need to stay on Yasmin? Also...How do I know for sure that I have PCOS? I was diagnosed just according to signs; dark, thick hair around my nipples and below my belly button and infrequent periods. But are there tests that let you know for sure? I would love some answers!
