Decided to start TTC...questions about weight, diet and PCOSFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 18 Jun 2003 14:52:09 -0500 (CDT)
Hi all, I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1998 when I stopped taking birth control and got all of the classic symptoms of PCOS. So, I went back on the pill until just 2 months ago- I stopped taking it again b/c my husband and I want to have a baby. I havent had any signs of ovulation, PMS, or anything. I am not on any meds at this time except levoxyl for hypothyroid. I am turning 30 next month (uhhhg!) and I'm 5'8" and weigh 155 lbs. Im an a little overweight, but definately not severely. I am on a low carb diet, eating a maximum of 20-30 g of carbs a day. I walk for an hour at least 4-5 times a week. So I dont know what to do. I was tested about 8 months ago to see if I was a candidate for met, but the doc said my tests are normal (at that time I was on the bcp and spiro). Is it a good idea to have the doc retest me now that I am not taking any meds that mask the pcos? I am getting the pcos symptoms again, increased hair/hair falling out/oily skin&hair/no periods. How likely is it that I can get pregnant by just losing weight and eating low carb? I am currently losing 1- 1.5 lbs a week. Any other similar stories out there? Thanks :) Catherine
