GOING OFF THE PILL...

Thank you all so much for your posts! I have had PCOS for 7 years, but have just discovered this forum. Everyone is so knowledgable, helfpul and understanding.

Perhaps someone knows what is going on with me. Four years ago I started taking 2000 mg. of met. Combined with the BCP, a low carb diet, and daily exercise I lost 40 lbs. and felt "normal", meaning wonderful, for the first time in my life! My acne cleared and my mood swings decreased. About 6 weeks ago, my endo and I decided that it was time to go off of the BCP (it had been 9 years). I have not had a period. My stomach feels upset and bloated all of the time, and I have started to break out. Last week, for about 5 days, I could not touch my breasts because they were incredibly tender (the soreness has since subsided). I imagine this is just my body adjusting to the hormonal changes. So, my question to anyone who has been through a similar experience--on average, how long does it take to get a period after one stops taking the pill? Everyone is different, but am I expecting too much too soon? (It has been 6 weeks). I was HAPPY that my breasts were sore--I thought that might be a sign that my period would arrive, but it didn't and they feel fine now. I understand that bloating and an upset stomach are side effects to the met, but what I don't understand is why I am just experiencing them, after so many years.

I am not overweight, and have continued to exercise and eat well. I felt so much better on the pill that I am wondering if all this is worth it. (But we eventually want kids so I needed to do this). I just want to feel "normal" again. Can anyone offer any insight?

I know this is long. Thanks for reading it!
