Newbie: Help choosing a physician in CTFrom: Alexa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Jun 2003 01:02:20 -0500 (CDT)
I need help in choosing an endocrinologist or general physician in lower fairfield county,CT who has some knowledge of PCOS or the ability to work with me to decide on a treatment option. I have known since 1996 that something was wrong with me definately but had no confirmation, infact had several doctors say nothing was wrong with me. I had at that time started the pill - Alesse for the first time. prior to that I was always regularly irregular (could tell if i was going to be early, late or not at all!). After I started it I did not see my periods for 6 months - I stopped the pills after about 3 months. Then my hubby and I have used no birth controll devise since then. All the time I was going to my doctor telling him that I knew something was wrong - confirmed by the massive amount of hair growth on my chin. He basically patted me on my head and said that nothing was wrong and I would get pregnant in time. I stopped going to him for any reason - yes I did ( and to a point still do) think that all that the gyn knew about was birthing babies and doing pap smears. Just last year I started seeing a new doctor and she looked at my history at the first exam ( both parents diagnosed diabetic) and said that I have all the symptoms of PCOS and that I needed to lose weight (yes really - I am somewhat heavy but I can bench 299 pounds and I never weight train! Don't you think that there is something is strange about that?). Since then I can not get her to be proactive about working with me to get some treatment options in place. Her main lecture is having me join weight watchers. I eat healthyly and know that the problem is not what I am eating and not the level of exercise since I exercise faithfully on my elliptical machine most days of the week. I have decided that I will be seeing an endocrinologist but I have lost any faith in my physicians. My hubby and I have wanted to get pregnant to no avail - his semen analysis came out good - so the only other reason is me. I now see my period most months but I did invest in a costly ovulation test kit and could not find the days that I ovulated. My general physicial is good in that he seems to just agree to give us referral to any test that we ask for. As a result my hubby and I have been the ones to suggest any actions. I would love to get a physician who actually participates in or will guide us in confirming that I do have PCOS and devising a treatment plan. I dont think that I am asking too much! Sorry for the long rambling post but I am frustrated and feel that I need to take action now.
