Re: PCOS, Atkins and hair loss.From: Wendy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Jun 2003 15:04:36 -0500 (CDT)
I've been on the Atkin's diet and for me, it was a success. I am I/R and have PCOS and I know that it has lowered my I/R. I was put on Met a year or so ago and I lost a few pounds on it. Then I went on to the Atkin's diet and the first week or two lost about 6 lbs, then I plateau'd. So I did what the Atkin's diet says to do; Get busy exercising. The weight literally dropped off within a few months. I lost 35 lbs total in about 3-4 months. I have kept the weight off and the diet is really easy in that I don't eat white rice, pasta or flour, (or sugar) and eat a lot of salads, veggies, some meat and some whole grains high in fiber. I recently went back to my dr. and we did some blood tests. My glucose is great, my FSH and LH are good. I'm checking my cholesterol and triclycerides in a week or so, though I'm sure they'll be fine too. I think the key to being the diet is to think that once you're completely through the phases, it's a way of life; our lives virtually DEPEND on it. I simply cannot go back to eating garbage. I love doughnuts, but I love having toned muscles and getting into size 9/10 clothes better! Good luck!
