Hi So sorry that you are having those side effects. I, too, have had what I thought were atypical side effects with Metformin. My doctor started me on 500mg a day, with the intent of working up to 1500mg. But I got so tired and short of breath I quit taking it. I did a search in this forum on Metformin side effects and found postings where other women had the same side effects. I started taking the Metformin again with the SAME tiredness and shortness of breath. I told my doctor and she put me on the Metformin XR (which is supposed to be tolerated better), starting with 500mg and I STILL had problems. Then someone suggested on this forum to cut a 500mg tablet in halves or quarters (NOT the XR) and start out at a much lower dosage and work my way up. (When I told my physician she thought that I was so clever to think of this. I didn't bother to tell her that it wasn't my idea) I have started at 1/4 tab (in the evening) and so far I have worked my way up to 1/2 tab with no ill effects. I am going to keep plodding along with this tactic, increasing the dosage every two weeks. Anyway, I guess my point is that I, too, have had side effects that were not the typical kind. I didn't have the diahrea or the nausea, but I was so short of breath and fatigued, and I am pretty sure it was the Metformin. Hopefully, it will make you feel better that it is not in your head. Other women have experienced similar problems that you are having. I suggest doing a search on this forum for "Metformin Side Effects" or something similar. Well, I say good luck to both of us and God Bless!
