Doc says no to metformin as im not ttcFrom: Emajo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 9 Jun 2003 14:01:18 -0500 (CDT)
i posted a message over a month ago asking people about the use of metformin in the uk, this is my update. my gp spoke to the endo specialist in the district hospital. he said it was being used but only for women who are ttc. as im not, they decided it would be inappropriate for me to be prescribed metformin. instead i have been prescribed dianette, but i havnt started on it yet. i remember my sister had bad problems with dianette befor, particularily weight gain. so my question is, if i wanted metformin to help me control my weight in order to break this circle of pcos, why have i been prescribed something that will more than likely do the opposite??? another point, surely if i can tackle the problem early, it should mean less problems conceiving in the future??? why delay the inevitable??? if it can be proved im IR, will the gp automatically prescribe metformin or similar? how do u know if ur IR? my dad is diabetic. has anyone had positive results re: dianette and pcos? i kno i should be asking my gp all this, but i always forget all iwant to say anytime i see him, i think he must be sick of the sight of me by now!! Sorry to ask so many questions, and i apologise if i have confused anyone. any help would be appreciated, thanks Emmajo
