It's a long shot, but you certainly can, especially if you are ovulating at all and you happen to have irregular cycles. Some women have spotting when they ovulate, and you might mistake that for having your period, and have sex at exactly the time you are ovulating. So, if you DON'T want to be pregnant, pick a birth control method or two and use it according to doc's directions, and use it everytime. You don't say whether you have PCOS, or whether you know if ovulating/conceiving has been a problem for you. But if you don't want to get pregnant, use birth control every time you have sex. Period.
