Elevated Testosterone and weightFrom: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 2 Jun 2003 13:39:32 -0500 (CDT)
What symptoms does elevated testosterone cause? My testosterone level came back 49, normal is between 12 and 72. My free testosterone levels are not back yet. My C-Peptide test came back 1.0, with norm between 0.9-4.3. My insulin tests have continued to come back on the low side even though I have the symptoms of sudden weight gain and an inability to lose. My question is could the above testosterone level be the cause of the weight issue? I have been eating low carb(Atkins low)and not a lot of food(loss of apetite), have been 3 months on Met, 2 month on Yasmin. Could the testosterone be the problem for a lot of us and not IR? I have normal thyroid tests and exercise faithfully. My cholesterol levels are higher than they should be for my age(21), but I have low estrogen(why Dr. has me on Yasmin). Does anyone out there know about the effects of higher testosterone in women? Is mine not really elevated? To me a normal range between 12 and 72 seems like quite a span. I am struggling to lose about 15 lbs. and stop the weight gain. Help from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks!!
