Re: Unable to breastfeed - could PCOS be the reason? From: angelaj (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 1 Jun 2003 22:09:41 -0500 (CDT)
Hi there, I had 2 babies and breastfed both of them, with severe, undiagnosed pcos. I breastfed the first one for about 3-4 months before going back to work and the second one until she was 11 months old. She basically weaned herself to sippy cup after discovering food! I would suggest checking with your hospital for a lactation nurse or something like that to get some help or advice. I do know that with each of my daughters, it took a little effort to get them use to latching on and nursing. In the old days, (my mother's in particular) ;) she will tell you that it's a baby's natural instinct to be able to suck, when they actually don't come out of the womb knowing how to suck. It's something they have to "learn" how to do contrary to what my mother thought she knew better about. A few words of advice, and take it with a grain of salt...relax, relax, relax, because the baby will sense your frustrations and it will make it more difficult to breastfeed. Hang in there and try find some help, you will be glad you did. I hope this helps, if you want to talk more let me know..
