Re: Atkins DietFrom: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 May 2003 13:06:51 -0500 (CDT)
For the general population, any low carb diet - including Atkins - may not be the best choice. For women with PCOS, low carb is by far the healthiest option. The goal of most PCOS treatments is to lower insulin levels, something that a low carb diet does. It can greatly reduce the symptoms of PCOS, help you lose weight, and possibly even help prevent diabetes. For many women with PCOS, low carbing is the only thing that works. Granted, Atkins is at an extreme end of the low carb spectrum, so perhaps you'd do better to start with a more moderate carb diet, but anything that reduces processed carbohydrates can help. Also know that there are lots of options for protein in the mornings, eggs aren't a necessity (I eat low carb for breakfast these days and only have eggs about once a month.)
