I know I'm not too terribly Hi, I think I have read studies where sometimes when people lose weight their symptoms lessen, but I am really skeptical about that. I believe the weight is not the cause of the symptoms. I wasn't too terribly overweight, either, but I think even the amount I was (26 pounds) was like you said, making everything seem worse. However, I think that the underlying disease, reactive hypoglycemia and whatever other hormone imbalances were happening were really what was getting worse and the weight was just a side effect of that process. My weight came on rapidly and was very hard to lose. At this writing, I have lost 23 of the 26 pounds (Yay!) and I don't think I would have been able to lose any of it if it hadn't been for taking metformin. It has been a slow process. I have been on metformin for almost a-year-and-a-half. I have had to be very dedicated to exercise and dieting. I haven't been on low-carb, just a healthy balanced diet with lots of whole grains, fruits, veggies, and dairy. I have had to watch my calorie intake and make sure I take in 500 calories fewer each day than my body needs for maintenance. I joined e-diets and LOVE that place. I don't think I could have had the success I've had without the support and answers to questions I had from the people there. I like the recipes, and as long as I spread my food throughout the day I don't get hungry. Once, my doctor tried to convince me I didn't need the metformin because my fasting insulin levels are so low. So, I tried to go off of it. After a week, I gained five pounds overnight (mid-cycle). That is just how my 26 pounds came on before, basically--I'd gain a huge chunk overnight, and then a month or so later, another overnight chunk. Also, the big sugar cravings I had had before came back. I went back on the met and lost four of the five pounds within 24 hours. I told my doctor and he said he couldn't explain it, but I told him I was going back on the met no matter what. Anyway, I hope my story helps you or someone else. It has been a long journey of self-discovery trying to figure out what caused the weight gain, and trying again to get it off. I've learned a lot. Jessica
