First of all, let me explain to you that Glucophage is NOT a fertility drug. Your doctor most likely wants to put you on Glucophage for the INSULIN RESISTANCE that is many times the CAUSE of PCOS which is the cause of infertility and high testosterone. It should help bring your hormones back to normal and also stop the slow weight gain and the water retention you are experiencing which is also associated with insulin resistance. Getting insulin resistance under control now will also prevent you from having high cholesterol and heart disease, diabetes, and other related problems later on in your life. If you have insulin resistance, you don't want to ignore it.

The fasting insulin test is not a very good test for insulin resistance and you can't always go by it. It's not sensitive enough at times to really show what is going on in the body. When I was suffering from IR, my fasting insulin could be a 2, 6, 8, low, yet I was suffering terribly. I went by my symptoms instead. A better test for me to measure insulin is the c-peptide test. Glucophage proved I was IR because my symptoms began to disappear almost immediately.

Be happy that your doctor wants to put you on glucophage if he/she thinks you need it. I had to fight for it! Wish I could have gotten it so easy years ago.
