I experience Severe Pain each month, please help!!From: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 23 May 2003 23:52:39 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I found out I had PCOS when I was 21, which was ooh about 3 years ago now, so I’m now 24! I have been visiting My Consultant every 3 months for the last 3 years, I first insisted on being referred by my Doctor because I had a lot of pain each month, when I had my period, this has always been the case.. But over the years it seems to have got worse. I was placed on MetFormin, which I had to stop for a while as I was getting hot sweats etc, and the doctors were not sure what this was down to, so stopped the MetFormin, still whilst this is going on, the pain continues each month, GETTING WORSE! over last year 2002 I lost 50lbs and change my diet to see if this helped, it helped in the way that, my periods did not come anymore, so yeah great the pain had stopped, I think I had one period where I had little or no pain at all, all year but that was it.. A marked improvement! This year since January 2003, my periods have been regular each month, and I have started getting SEVERE pain, I am on very high dose pain killers, which are now not working properly, the pain lasts for the first 2-3 days, in these days I can do nothing, the pain hits so hard my body just can't cope with it, it feels like it takes over my whole body, I vomit sometimes, go for days without eating because I can get sick.. I have tried sickness tablets they don't work! I have to take time of work, and it just seems to be getting worse now.. My Last period, this is what happened: My period started - the pain kicked in, it was at 6am in the morning (Tuesday)this time, I took some pain killers (prescribed by my doctors ~Tramadol 50mg x 2~) the pain comes on so quick, the pain killers don't have time to fully kick in, so my body starts to crumble with the pain, I had hot sweats, didn't know where to turn, felt like I was going to vomit, and I did, my body was overheating the pain was so intense, I lay on the floor in our new home, with my boyfriend trying to cool me down, the pain is still there, I don't know what to do! I keep telling myself the pain killers will kick in soon.. I finally after 40 minutes - and hour of this am relieved of some pain, still whilst laying on the bare floor, I take another of the tramadol which I’m not meant to do! As I’ve taken the "required" amount already, the pain is going phew I say.. Phew I’ve survived it again.. Phew this was moderate this time; it has been worse just about!! so I stay at home all day, continually taking the pain killers, 2 days go by, I stop the pain killers now, as the pain has eased off finally, yay : ) survived again I keep saying, and I’m pleased with my self, another day passed though, and I’m still not 100% I’m writing this now at 5am in the morning, as I don't know what else to do now, my body has kind of recovered from this month's period, and it's Saturday Morning! I’ve had nearly a week off work :/ I never knew I would feel like saying yay I survived! but it feels like a victory when I get over the pain, because it's so intense, I just don't know what to do anymore, and I guess what I’m asking for is: Has anyone had pain with there periods like this?? Or similar? Can you advise anything? I'm back to see my Consultant soon, what should I be asking? Apart from telling him the above (with the graphic detail this time, and not the pretty side)! Any advice would be much appreciated : ) Current Symptoms: I currently around 190 lbs (5'4") and have: heavy menstrual cycle every month, facial hair, moderate-severe pain in ovaries 2-3 days per month. I know this is Long but I had to say it, as I need to get it all out, I think I’m going to print this off and take it with me to see the consultant :/ I look forward to your replies, please help! Regards,
-- Andrea.
