Baby update!From: Valerie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 May 2003 20:31:35 -0500 (CDT)
Hey all! I haven't been on this board hardly at all since February because this baby I am carrying is taking lots of energy... but I figured it was time to give a baby update... I am now 20 weeks pg! A couple weks ago I took my AFP test (the blood Alpha-Feto Protein test) and it came back with a "higher than normal" risk for Downs and/or another defect.... NOPE! She is fine! (SHE!!!) It is my sneaking suspicion that we Cysters often have abnormal AFP results... but the fact of the matter is that 12% of AFP's are abnormal for no reason. (BTW, all you California girls, AFP is forced on us here! State rule! Leave it to the State of California to require a test with such a high rate of unnecessary worry! AND the State of California THEMSELVES take and keep your blood sample... until my extended AFP fiasco I never was much of a "OMG Big Brother" kind of person, but I am now a little more cautious! The upside though, because of my PCOS and m/c history my OB ref'd me for a Level II Ultrasound (4-D ultrasound!) as he wanted to spare me an amnio... and now I have a baby video and CD-ROM... Now we just need to work out a name! (and pack because we are moving in 1 week! EEEK!
