It depends on which version of metformin you are taking.... the regular metformin *needs* to be spread out as evenly possible through the day to be effective. So breakfast lunch and dinner would be perfect. If you're taking the regular metformin, taking double your dose at once (like 2 pills with breakfast) not only means it will 'wear off' during the day, but can be very hard on your system - you could expect a lot more side effects that way.

If you're taking the Glucophage XR extended release, you can take them pretty much whenever you want. They are designed to be slow release and taken all at once, but many women find they get better results taking even the XR through the day.
