Re: Advice Please....Glucophage & fatty liverFrom: TJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 19 May 2003 20:39:18 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I have fatty liver and am taking 2000 mg Glucophage XR. Had my gallbladder out about 1 1/2 years ago - no stones, it just wasn't able to empty very well (20% ejection fraction). My ALT and AST (liver enzymes) have been elevated for years, and the doctors had said that it's likely to be from the gallbladder not functioning properly, as well as from the fatty liver. Incidentally, insulin resistance plays a hand in these issues as well. You may find that treating your insulin resistance (if you do have insulin resistance) treats your fatty liver as well and in turn brings down your enzymes. I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned as far as burning urination, etc. Is that listed anywhere to be a possible side effect of glucophage? If it isn't, maybe it's just a coincidence? I really hope so, glucophage can do so much to help us. Lots of luck to you, I really hope you get some answers! Tracy J.
