About 60% of women get side effects from Glucophage - mostly gastrointestinal like stomach upset, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, etc.

For MOST women who get them these effects only last a few weeks.

You can do yourself a world of good with it by remembering to start out very, very slowly. Take just one 500mg pill at first, or even 1/2 a pill (you can cut them with a knife UNLESS they are the XR version.) Work up in steps of 250mg or 500mg at a time, over several weeks. You've got to let your body adjust slowly to this medication or the side effects can be quite severe - starting it all at once is a big shock to the body!

Take it with food, or at least with milk, and over the next few weeks find out whether it is better for you if taken with a moderate amount of carbs, or on a strictly low carb diet. Different things work for different women!

Good luck - remember almost half of the women who take it never get side effects at all, and you can minimize your chances of getting them by working up to a dose slowly. You might never have trouble at all!
