Doctors??? What kind?

I was diagnosed with PCOS by my GYN. He has prescribed my metformin etc - but after reading all these posts I don't think that my GYN should be the person who monitors my PCOS. He checked my cholesterol and did some other blood work - but he has never checked my insulin levels or anything and that concerns me. Should I be checked? Shouldn't it be monitored? If so what kind of doctor do I go to? My GYN seemed to think I didn't need to go to anyone else - and I called one of the 2 endocrinologist in the area to see if they treat PCOS and they said they need a referral. Should I go to my general doctor?? Thanks for your help. Angela
