Re: Effectiveness of YasminFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 1 May 2003 19:06:48 EDT
Yasmin has been very good for me. I have gotten my period each month for the last 6 months and haven't experienced any breakthrough bleeding. I hadn't had my period for a while before it (archives). I am not very bloated either. That was a positive side effect my doctor told me about. IMy period lasts about 4 or 5 days...usually the 1st and last are mainly staining... I began taking a double dose of it a couple of months ago. I was told it would decrease my testosterone level, and that's why it would be more beneficial than other pills for me to take. I've been extremely sick and anemic for several months, and was experiencing some pain and breakthrough bleeding on the Yasmin. I'm really new to all of this, and my doctor just told me recently that being on a higher dose would cause pain and cramping and all of this. I didn't know that. So, last month, I complained to her about the pain and the bleeding, and she switched me to Lo'Ovral. I have been SO miserable this past month. The bleeding is occuring several days a week, and I'm just in pain ALL of the time! I called her and told her this, and she says the only thing she can do is put me on Provera for 10 days. The whole point of me taking these pills at a higher dose is to STOP the bleeding I've been experiencing for 4 1/2 months. So what good would that do me? I took Provera before, and had so much bleeding afterwards I literally was throwing up and passing out every day. Anyway, my question is: should I insist that she puts me back on the Yasmin, because it seems with everything I've read, women have a lot more success on the Yasmin than other drugs. Whew! Sorry that was so long!
