Dawn, I have PCOS and also have been diagnosed by three doctors as having IBS, constipation-predominant. I don't know if I can help you with your questions, but I can tell you how I have done on Metformin. I was actually in a quite "regular" period during my first year on Metformin. It wasn't until the start of my second year on Met. that I started getting the constipation and cramping again. I don't think, at least for me, that it had anything to do with the Metformin, but I could be wrong. My gastroenterologist said that IBS just has a mind of it's own and you go in cycles for no apparent reason. I did try that new medicine that's supposed to be just for people with our diagnosis. It's called Zelnorm (Tegasarod). It did nothing for me, but you could ask your doctor about it or read up on it. My doctor also has me taking lots of fiber supplement every day; the jury is still out on whether it really helps or not, though. I've also been told to take extra magnesium. He said start with 1/2 teaspoon of Milk of Magnesia each night, and if that didn't help to try 1 teaspoon, and keep going up until I got relief. If I take too much Milk of Magnesia (such as the suggested dose on the bottle) I get painful cramping. Hope this helps, Jessica
