Re: What is your family history with PCOS?From: AD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Apr 2003 18:35:30 -0500 (CDT)
My father (72) had an aunt from Yugoslavia...I never knew her as she only came to the US once or twice. She and her husband tried for years to have children and were never able to (obviously, back then, there were no fertility treatments), she was also rather obese and suffered greatly from hirsutism. She was never dx with PCOS as that didn't exist either. I'm not sure if there's any connection, but I did read once somethng regarding the "PCOS gene" or "IR gene" coming from the male side of the family...sounds like it may have in my case. Who knows. I am one of 5 children, my mother is one of 9 (8 girls, each having 3 or more children of their own) and my mother's mother was one of 15....I can't say there's anything pointing to PCOS on her side of the family. :-) Appt with new Endo Tuesday...keeping my fingers crossed.
