Could I have PCOS?From: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 Apr 2003 14:05:37 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 22 years old and have had a regular period (every 28-29 days) since I was 12. In December, I got my period after only 21 days and then in February I got it after 21 days again. I saw my Ob-GYN about it, but she said not to worry. I got it after 28 days in March, but now it is April and has been 34 days and I haven't gotten my period yet. I took 2 home pregnancy tests and they both came up negative (plus is it HIGHLY unlikely that I am pregnant.) I have been researching PCOS recently and I do have bad acne, very heavy periods most of the time, and I gain weight very easily. I am able to lose it if I eat practically nothing and exercise, but it comes right back on again. I do not have hirsutism as far as I can tell, just a slightly hairy upper lip but nothing major. My family is prone to pancreatic problems, and I read that family members with diabetic problems can make you more prone to the disease. My Dad has type II diabetes, as did his Dad and my great-grandmother. My grandfather died of pancreatic cancer and my aunt has type I diabetes. Sorry this message is so long but I just have to know if someone else has the same type of symptoms I do, or if I'm just imagining things. My doctor says I am probably having wacky periods because of stress, but I'm not under any more stress now than usual. Thanks for all your help.
