Clomid / IUI seems a little drastic... please help!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 21 Apr 2003 12:43:02 -0500 (CDT)
Hi - it looks like their are several out there who have done or are doing IUI. I have known I'd need help getting prego, since I was 17 (12 years ago) and found out I had mild PCOS. Anyway, it turns out that in addition to my ovulation issues, my husband (same age) has a lower than average sperm count (13 million instead of 20 million, and their motility is not that great). So, the doctor wants our treatment to be clomid, with IUI! We were taken by surprise because it seems like a drastic way to start. I realize at 29, I'm not getting any younger, and his sperm count could be a little better. But can't I start out slower, like by just taking clomid for a few months to see what happens? Has anyone else felt pressured into IUI? Clearly I'm not desparate enough yet since I'm afraid to do it. Also, the doctor wants to rule out any fallopian tube issues (even though there's not reason to think I would have this problem at all!) by making me do a hysterosalpingogram (HSG)- they give you a shot in your cervix to numb you, then insert die into the uterous to see it flow through the tubes!!! So on top of placing a catheter in my cervix for the IUI - she wants me to go through this HSG!!! Anyone else in my situation?
