Back to Square One and Fed Up

Hi, all...

I am new to this board and not ordinarily so grumpy. :) I have some questions to ask and if anyone could provide me any information, I would be glad to hear it.

I am 25 years old and have approximately 3-4 periods a year. My husband and I started trying to get pregnant 4 years ago and succeeded in mid-2001 after a little over 2 years of trying. At the onset of menstruation, I had a regular cycle for about 2 years before they became more and more sporadic. I also began gaining weight quickly and easily around the same time my periods screwed up. In 2001, I had a period on May 31st for 3 days (the only one that year) and tested for pregnancy everyday from July 17th on. The first day I showed a positive was August 3rd. (I know this sounds weird but I swear it's true.) I had my little boy in April of 2002 and bled normally after I had him. After the post-birth bleeding stopped, I didn't bleed again for 3 months, with the occasional (twice) spot of blood after wiping. We have been trying to get pregnant again for a year and once again... We're on the road of doom. I had two periods from April-December of last year before the bad one. I started on December first and bled thru the middle of February. It was so heavy at first that a super tampon wouldn't last me maybe ten minutes. I called my ob/gyn and he put me on birth control pills to stop the bleeding. It worked for three days, tops. When bleeding resumed after that, he told me to just give it time. I don't want to make him sound awful, because he's an excellent physician, btw. But that's what he told me, as if everything were fine. I finally quit taking the pills in February, about the time the bleeding stopped. Since then I haven't bled any and it seems as if I gain a pound every day.

I am really sorry to draw this out so long but I want to give a clear discription of myself to see if anyone has any ideas. I really, really want another baby and I don't know what to do to get tested for PCOS. Should I just call my ob/gyn and ask to be tested to see if that is what's causing my irregularity?

Thanks so much!

:)
