Kristie-

I too had on and off times for glucophage because my body didn't tolerate it well at all!!! Finally I am up to 1500mg/day, but I started 250mg. I cut the 500mg pills in half and took 1/day with a low carb meal for a week. I had a little gas and bloating, but none of the horrible stomach problems and loose bowels I had had before. After a week I went up to 500mg for another week, and so on. I still have to watch what I eat - even after my body has "adjusted" I still have tummy troubles if I have a particularly high carb meal. My dr. suggested a minimum of 1 week between dose increases, most important is to listen to your body!!! It is better to slowly increase the dose than to not take it at all!
