g means grams, as in the metric system of weights. One other thing you should be aware of, in the uk, a pint is 20 fl oz, not 16 as in the usa.

Any good cookbook should give you a conversion table for grams to oz (and cooking temps if needed, they use Centigrade and something called gas mark, unlike the usa which still uses farenhight)
