Re: Newly diagnosed w/PCOS - scaredFrom: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 13:15:46 -0600 (CST)
Wow, it sounds like you have a GREAT gyn! that's so wonderful! Knowing about PCOS, running blood work, AND referring you to an RE are just great steps that a lot of doctors have to be pushed into. So that's one really positive thing - you sound as though you're in very good and capable hands, and you'll get the best treatment! Don't panic yet about not being able to have kids, either. It may be easy for you, and it may take longer than you'd originally thought. Everyone is different. But, assuming PCOS is the only fertility problem you're dealing with, MOST women can have biological kids if that's what they want. Just treating the PCOS itself, with medication and diet, so you start feeling better and getting healthier, often is enough to restore ovulation. Adding a type of oral medication to help you ovulate if you don't (like Clomid) to the PCOS meds works for over 90% of PCOS women. And virtually all the rest can be helped with injectibles and / or IVF if you choose to go that route. It depends on a lot of factors, but rest assured that kids aren't out of reach. For many women with PCOS it's easy to become pregnant once the PCOS is treated, and I hope that happens for you!
