Sorry you have been having such a hard time. It certainly sounds like your symptoms would do for PCOS. Not everyone has the biochemical disturbances. Have you had an ultrasound scan? This is a useful test to confirm the ovarian cysts that are seen in PCOS. Also your doctor should check your testosterone, DHEAS and SHBG cos these may be abnormal in PCO. Also, lots of women with PCOS have low ferritin which can explain the tiredness. It is true that you need a GP referral to see a specialist but they are pretty much obliged to refer you if you request it. I do not know any specialists in london (I see someone in Bristol) but there is a site called drfoster.co.uk which gives names of UK specialists. Also the site soulcysters.com has very good discussion boards including one for finding doctors who know about PCO. Unfortunately this site is not working at the moment but I am sure it will start working again soon. Don't give up hope - you need to find out what is wrong with you. It is NOT normal to have periods only every 40-50 days and your GP should refer you to a specialist if they can't work out whats wrong themself. GOOD LUCK! Emma >
