Re: Thank you and questionFrom: GoldenEagle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Mar 2003 05:30:06 -0700
First I just want to thank all those who responded with their encouraging words and support.... I am feeling a little better today. I also have much to think about and bring up to my doctor when I see him Monday. I do feel like I will need his help, at least for awhile, to deal with the depression and anxiety.. I hate taking pills to fix things, but sometimes I also know that they can be a necessary "evil". I do have a couple of questions that I was hoping I could get some input on before I see my doctor on Monday... I'd like to have some idea of what to say when I go in there... First off, I've been on the BCP since January 13. I know that they are starting to work a little since now instead of just have the spotting, I do have more period-like flows too. Last month I stopped all bleeding after a period for 9 days before spotting again. This month I made it 14 days, and began spotting again on Saturday. Within 36 hours it became heavier, but not much. Wednesday it was definitaly menstrual like so I made the decision to skip the rest of the weeks pills to see what would happen. Today I woke up with very heavy bleeding (all down my legs as soon as I stood up out of bed). It hasn't been quite that bad since I got up, but is still much more like a period than anything that I've had since all this started back in November. I was afraid that if I kept taking the BCPs through this week that I would end up having a two week period! I was hoping that by not taking the pills when the period started early that it would be allowed to progress on its own without interference from the estrogen, and then I could go back to a normal pill schedule next week when the bleeding tapers off again. Was this a wise move? I figured since it was only 7 days early or so, I wanted to give it a chance. Any sooner and I would not have stopped.... Second question, and last.. Sometime in January, not too long after I began taking the BCP's (and also the Spiro), I began noticing a lot of pressure in my lower bowel and rectal area. Most of the time it just feels like gas pressure, right at the exit that can't be expelled. Other times I feel more like I'm a bit constipated. My BM's have been pretty normal when I am NOT bleeding or spotting, but as soon as the blood starts showing again, I start feeling that pressure again and do get mildly constipated. Within a day or two after I stop bleeding, this pressure feeling goes away and my bowel movements return to normal (for me, once a day). What could this be? Could it be bloating? Or my uterus pressing on my bowel from hormones fluxing and causing changes in there? A possible sign of IR? or IBS? I told my doctor about this last time I saw him and he did not seem too concerned, although he wouldn't or couldn't give me an answer as to why. The main reason he did the abdominal ultrasound with the vaginal ultrasound was because I did mention this particular pressure symptom. I'm just curious if anyone else here has had this and gotten an answer from their doctor when they ask about it. Thanks in advance, Dawn
