Re: New Here - Please Help!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 21 Mar 2003 09:14:43 -0600 (CST)
Welcome. You are on the right track with dieting and exercise. I have had the weight problem all of my life and have been able to lose a few pounds here and there but it was SOOO hard to stick to a diet because I would have terrible cravings for carbs and I would eventually give in to these cravings. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago and my Endocrinologist put me on Metformin. I went back on my diet and I am doing great. It is so much easier to stick with the diet on Metformin because I do not have those cravings. So far I have lost 22 lbs. We are hoping to have a baby soon too but I have decided with the advice from my doctor to lose some of the wieght. He said that I should continue with the Metformin and when I lose some of the weight and get my hormones in balance, (they have improved but are not normal yet) then I will try to get pregnant. If I don't succeed then he will add fertility drugs. I also have a thyroid problem and I have heard others with PCOS who are hypothyroid as well. Did your doctor check your thyroid (TSH) levels? This board is a good place to go for information and support. Best Wishes.
