Hello,

I am very sorry this is long.

Short answer is no I would not recommend laser hair removal treatments as long as your hormonal levels aren’t stable- basically my doctor told me this much later than I had hoped, I wanted to warn people before they wasted their time, money, and patience.

Long answer is I was really hoping to find someone who would ask about laser hair removal treatments. I am a 19 year old college student who comes home every break to a laser hair removal appointment. In the beginning it is really exciting to go to each appointment because less and less hair is growing back every time (it also doesn’t hurt very much in the beginning). I bought a “package” to get a certain amount of treatments, and then a hole year after my last treatment I could come back for touch- ups (but I was told that “no one ever needs to come back for a year of touch-ups, sometimes maybe one or two more appointments but that’s it”). I have now been through all of my initial treatments, and my year of free touch-ups (I came regularly every 8-10 weeks as told), but there is still hair left. This was supposed to be a permanent hair removal treatment, in which all the hair was supposed to be gone at the end of the treatments. I told the doctor at my planned last treatment that I was very discouraged to go through all this hassle, pain, and money, and not get the results that I had expected. My doctor obviously felt bad and told me that I could come for two more touch-ups, free of charge. When I go to my first of the two free touch ups, my doctor (you get a new one every time), tells me that I am wasting my time basically because the hair is going to continue to grow back. She said until you can get all of the hormones in your body to be stable that the hair will keep growing back. I wish I had been told this before my parents had paid a couple of thousand for all of these treatments. I thought that laser hair removal would be a great thing, but I am very disappointed to say that it didn’t work for me, and as far as I can tell I am sure there are many other PCOS women who will probably have at least a similar type of continual hair re-growth problem. I will admit that the hair is much less dense, but all of this just started with a few hairs and I have no doubt that I will have a full beard again in no time. Have a nice day, and goodluck.
