What can I do to help others with PCOS?

OBGYN.net Fourm: I'm passing this message along from the PCOSA. I have always found this forum to be full of women who were VERY interested in PCOS activism and doing what they can to help other women with PCOS, especially those who suffer with it not knowing that they have it. I get regular emails asking me what can be done to help? This message contains a lot of good ideas, so I thought you'd like to take a look!! Obviously all the financial support we can find helps too, we have had to make some very drastic cuts in the past few months. You can always become a memeber of the PCOSA (http://www.pcosupport.org/membership/applications.php) or make a donation (http://www.pcosupport.org/pcosa/donate_app.php) but this message contains some great, non-financial ideas! I sure appreciate knowing all of you and knowing that, in time, we can make a difference in how the medical (and political, and social) community recognizes and treats us.

***************

Dear Friends, As many of you are aware, we are in the middle of running our Have a Heart Donation Drive and thanks to the generosity of so many of you, we have raised over $22,000.00, thus far. Although the funds we receive will help us offer better services and resources, we still need your help! We need people like you to offer your time, opinions and comments to help us make this organization the best it can be. So, how can you help?

1. Donate your time and talents

There are different ways that you can make a difference and get involved with PCOSA. We are currently looking to fill positions in many of our departments. So please feel free to get more information by joining our volunteer e-mail list at http://www.pcolist.org/mailman/listinfo/volunteers or by filling out an online volunteer application http://www.pcosupport.org/pcosa/volunteer_app.php

Some of our current opportunities include;

2. Write a letter

You can help us by letting the government know that PCOS research, support and treatments are an important issue that needs to be addressed! Write to your congressperson and/or senator and let them know about PCOS, your struggles and how the government can help you and PCOSA make this condition more prevalent among the medical community, insurance companies and the public.

Write your representative http://www.house.gov/writerep/

Write your senator http://www.senate.gov/

3. Get the word out about PCOS......

Help us get the word out to TV, newspapers and magazines in your local community. Contact our PR department for a media kit and details on how you can help pr@pcosupport.org

4. Organize an Event

Work with your local support chapter, healthcare professionals and other women with PCOS to host meetings, walks, seminars and symposia for information on PCOS! Please contact Ashley Tabeling or Melissa Meyerhofer, Manager of Chapter Services for further details at chaptersmanager@pcosupport.org

5. Make a Suggestion

You can also offer great value by providing us with feedback and suggestions through the use of our suggestion box http://pcosupport.org/board/suggestion.php Which goes right to our board of directors!

Join us today in continuing to make this a premiere organization and website in the fight for better understanding, support and treatment of PCOS!

Best Wishes, Ashley Tabeling Manager of Chapter Services and Director of Development
