low-carb dietFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Mar 2003 15:38:41 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I would like some dietary advice on how to manage PCOS. I did use the the Atkins low-carb diet a while ago and it did make me lose weight and not feel so bloated, but for me i felt that the diet was too severe in the reduction of carbs and i was left continously feeling lethargic. I want to lose weight but not work with a diet plan that drastically cuts out too many carbs. I have a 14 month old child and also need to lose about 16lb of the post-pregnancy weight that doesn't seem to shift. I do exercise and go to the gym often as i can. AN example of a typical days diet for me is: Breakfast- Wholemeal toast with spread of honey (No butter or marg spread) Lunch- Mixed nuts and fruit Dinner- unbreaded or unbattered fish with mixture of vegetables (no potatoes or bread) a)How do you measure what ones daily carb intake should be? b)Has anyone used a diet plan that has been successful but healthy? Also, after i had my child, my periods were regular (every 28 days)...never had that at all before!!..but as time has gone on, they have become irregular again-anything between 5-7 weeks. C)Can using a diet suited to PCOS help regulate ones periods? Any advice and sharing of information welcome and apologies if my questions appear to trivial.
