DHEA 'positive' side effects?

Has anyone here ever actually been in the position of having a _better_ metabolism as the result of ovarian issues? (I know this is not usually the case at all.)

I've always been a binge-eater and have some other eating disorder issues as well which ultimiately led to my being over 100 lbs overweight.

I went to the doctor last summer to find out why I was losing quite a bit of weight (despite my horrible eating habits) and getting the odd beard whisker on my chin (I've always had a fairly heavy moustache) so she tested my hormone levels.

My ovaries didn't appear to have any obvious cysts when checked out with an ultrasound. And my TSH, fasting glucose, insulin, and free testosterone were all absolutely fine, but my DHEA was twice the maximum normal level.

I was sent to an OB/GYN who put me on birth control pills last September. This reversed the DHEA levels, but it also started to reverse the weight loss. :^(

Has anyone else in this forum experienced this kind of ovarian disorder? Is it unusual at all?

And am I in more danger health-wise from not trying to manage the DHEA level medically, or if I stay on the pill and gain back all that weight? (Yes, I know I have a choice in how I eat, but in 31 years of crazy eating (with several of them spent playing the bulimia game as well) I've never been able to manage myself well when it comes to food. It seemed like a blessing for all that weight to disappear on its own the way it did...as long as it wasn't because I was dying from a tumor or something, at least. *sigh*)

Thanks for reading my rambling note,
