BCP or no BCP

Hi everyone,

I started a low carb diet in December and switched to Dr. Atkins about 2 weeks ago and have lost over 30 lbs in less than 3 months. Since starting this diet, I have had 3 periods, all about 28 days apart. The problem is they last for over two weeks. I had my annual OB/GYN visit the other day and she suggested I start BCPs to help regulate my period, but I am afraid to do this because I think that maybe with the help of almost no carbs, my body is trying to regulate itself, and think maybe the reason my periods are lasting so long is because I use to only get 1 or 2 periods a year, so there's a lot of build up to get rid of. I don't know if this is all wishful thinking or what. I do want to get pregnant more than anything, that's another reason I fear BCP. I am turning 31 this year and my biological clock is ticking sooo loud that I can't hear myself think. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated, I'm suppose to start taking BCPs the day after tomorrow. HELP, I'm so confused. Please feel free to email me, thanks.
