I started getting these about 4 years ago, when I was 22 and my PCOS symptoms just exploded! At first I thought it was because of the warmer weather in California, or because I wore blended fabrics. They would come and go and pop at inopportune times. Some were incredibly large and other were small. I only ever get them on my upper inner thighs. I occasionally get one on my abdomen. The worst part is that some of them have left terrible scars!

To answer your question, my RE told me they (the blisters) were due to the fact that I'm extremely insulin resistant. They have cut back since I've been on metformin, but still pop up. If they are extremely painful, I try soaking in a warm bath to draw it out, and then I usually try to break them. I know it's probably wrong, but I have to do it! I then treat it with Tea Tree Oil from the Body Shop. Not only does it take the swelling down, but it's a natural anti-biotic and helps the blister to heal faster.

I would suggest doing some research on IR and, if you haven't already been tested for it, to request that you be tested. It's very manageable with diet and exercise. I would recommend two great books: The Insulin Resistance Diet is wonderful in it's explanation of the condition and how an IR person metabolizes food, and SugarBusters is great in terms of an eating plan that's easy to understand and follow and that allows some flexibility.

I hope this helped!
