Starting metformin during pregnancy

Hi, My hubby and I were fortunate enough to fall pregnant on my second cycle of Clomid (after a long time trying to conceive). My doc THINKS I may have PCOS, but I don't fit the typical profile. I had irregular periods (one per 3-4 months), and an almost significant FSH/LH ratio, but I'm slim (a little underweight), no excess hair growth etc. Anyway, my doctor has suggested I consider taking metformin to decrease the risk of miscarriage. I am currently 5 weeks, 3 days pregnant. I have not heard of the medication being initiated DURING pregnancy, and my gut instinct is to avoid it. It is my first pregnancy, so there have been no prior miscarriages. We have no diabetes problems in our family history. Does anyone have an opinion on this??? I will be truly grateful for whatever information you can share. Thank you so much!!!
