Some things I have learned over the last 14 yearsFrom: Dee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 24 Feb 2003 20:34:19 -0600 (CST)
I have read some of the posts on this message board, not ALL. I was told I had PCOS about 14 years ago. I was trying to get pregnant and was told over and over again that I wouldn't concieve untill I lost weight. I refused to take this as an answer and went to Doctor after Doctor. I finally ended up at a Gyno/Endocronoilogist, who told me about PCOS. I spent a year on Clomid, went through numerous horrific testing, including endomitric biopsys. I finally concieved and had a beautiful baby girl. I then miscarried 3 times, which was very emotionaly damaging, and went on to have a wonderful little boy. I know I am a lucky woman to have been able to have children as many women with PCOS can't. I have also learned that PCOS involves insulin levels, most of us have hyperinsulimia. This means that our insulin doesn't work correctly and doesn't break down carbs and sugars as it should. This in turn can cause our bodies to crave more carbs and sugar, a vicious circle. I have found that a diet low in carbs has helped me loose a bit of weight, and feel alot better. Some of the diabetes meds are also in use for women with PCOS now..something to talk to your doctor about. I have learned to accept the fact that my husband has more hair on his head and less on his face than I do. Laser hair removal can't promise me permant hair removal, neither does my razor, wax, or tweezers but they are alot less expensive! It is believed that PCOS is genetic. I worry I may have passed this on to my daughter, which is why I still continue my quest for knowlage. Thank you for having this posting board. Remember ask questions, demand answers..our Doctors work for US!
